Russell Kane gets Radio 2 stand-up series
Stand-up comedian Russell Kane, who won the 2010 Foster's Comedy Award at the Edinburgh Festival, has been awarded his own radio series.
The comic will present What Happens In..., a new six-part series for Radio 2, recorded at different seaside locations across the UK. Similar to TV series such as Michael McIntyre's Comedy Roadshow, Kane will introduce other comics in each localised edition of the series, which will be produced by Avalon.
To be recorded during July, What Happens In... will call at Southend, Brighton, Blackpool, Swansea and Folkestone before finishing in Bournemouth. The travelling format has been utilised in recent years by Mark Steel's In Town, in which Steel writes and performs topical stand-up material to each location.
In presenting a range of comic talent during each episode, What Happens In... also bears similarities to an earlier Avalon production for Radio 2, Out To Lunch, which Kane hosted over its 4th to 6th series, ending in 2008.
What Happens In... is expected to broadcast later this summer. To apply to be in the audience for one of the recordings see our free tickets page
