Roy Hudd to star in new Radio 2 show
Veteran comedian Roy Hudd is to return to Radio 2 in early 2011 in a new sketch show. The 74 year-old comedian is teaming up with TV Burp and Blaggers Guide writer David Quantick to star in a new sketch show pilot called HQ-R2. The programme will also feature actors Kevin Eldon and Anita Dobson.
Hudd broke into TV in 1964 via Ned Sherrin's topical satire show Not So Much a Programme, More a Way of Life, but found wider fame with The Roy Hudd Show in 1969. However, the comedian and writer is perhaps best known for presenting Radio 2's long-running topical comedy show The News Huddlines, which ran for 51 series between 1975 to 2001. Thanks to its 'open door' policy in regards to accepting sketches, The News Huddlines is noted for providing a training ground for many of today's TV and radio writers. Andy Hamilton (Outnumbered), David Renwick (One Foot In The Grave) and prolific panel show gag writer Ged Parsons are three of the many writers who worked on The News Huddlines.
HQ-R2 is being recorded at The Drill Hall in London on Sunday 14th November. For free tickets to see the show being recorded visit drillhall.co.uk
