Russell Brand returns to XFM radio
After a two year hiatus, Russell Brand will be back on XFM.
The radio station is set to broadcast content from the comedian's new twice-weekly audioBoom podcasts, which see him joined by former radio presenting sidekick Matt Morgan to discuss various topics.
The package will be broadcast exclusively on XFM from this Sunday (15th March 2015). The station confirms: "The new show, Sunday evenings from 9-10pm, will feature opinions and general humour, all in typical Russell Brand style."
This news sees the comedian return to the station that helped launch his radio career. With Morgan, he began hosting XFM's Sunday afternoon show in 2002, however he was fired from the station within a year for reading pornographic material live on air. He would go on to have shows on BBC 6Music and Radio 2, before the infamous 'Sachsgate' furore tht forced him to leave the BBC.
Brand has already returned to XFM. He last featured on the network for a special one-off charity broadcast in March 2013, when he was joined by Noel Gallagher and Noel Fielding.
His new audioBoom show, which also features poet Mr Gee, is now four episodes in. Topics have included "whether or not the future is bright for mankind" and wildlife tales.
Speaking as the show launched last month, Brand said: "Me and my sleeper cell of radio mates are happy to get back on the air with audioBoom. Which sounds like terrorism in the earhole. Exciting."
Speaking about XFM picking up the show, the station's managing editor Chris Baughen says: "Having Russell return to XFM is great news and something we've wanted to do for a very long time. For me, radio is where he does his best work and along with many XFM and Russell Brand fans, I can't wait to hear what he's got in store!"
Russell Brand is on XFM on Sunday nights from 9pm. XFM is on 104.9 FM in London, 97.7 FM in Manchester, 96.3 FM in Paisley, and available across the UK on DAB digital radio; at xfm.co.uk; or via the XFM app.
Below is a clip of Brand and Morgan recording Episode 4 of the podcast. They talk about the time someone "touched Russell's gong" in a TV studio:
