Penny Rose, who is a costume designer working on Mission Impossible, Evita and Pirates of the Caribbean, offers up a Victorian skirt lifter, a clamp-like device using chains that lifted the skirt to help make women more mobile.
Francis Wheen, deputy editor of Private Eye, biographer of Karl Marx, and writer on subjects such as delusions, donates a letter sent by Charles Darwin in 1880 reportedly to Karl Marx, about a book dedication which has been the subject of much debate. It was later discovered that the letter in question was to the lover of Marx's daughter, and that many of Marx's biographers were completely misguided.
Clive Oppenheimer, professor of volcanology at Cambridge University, and who has written books about some of the biggest volcanic eruptions of the past 250,000,000 years, gives the Museum some magma, in order to put it inside Grímsvötn volcano that is in the Museum. It is a material that is in liquid, gas and solid state of matter.
