Jack Waley-Cohen, a quiz champion that has among other shows has won Countdown and Weakest Link, and the recent inventor of what3words, a website which divides on world into simple three-word address, donates a book of Tom Swifties, a type of pun with a person's name and an adjective. For example: "I've discovered someone else who writes fairy tales, said the brothers grimly."
Amber Butchart, a historian who specialises in fashion, has spoken at the Tate and V&A, and has given talk on the influence of war on fashion and the cultural history of shoes, gives the Museum the colour mauve, the first synthetic dye that was ever invented. Before that, purple dyes had to be made using crushing seashells.
Jimeoin, the one-named Irish-Australian stand-up who was actually born in England, and the first comic to tour the top of Australia, offers up a new measurement: the speed of cheese. This is because seemingly all knives cut through cheese at the same time. The standard appears to the time to cut cheddar.
