Written by and starring acclaimed author A L Kennedy, the story centres on Marjory Anne Smith who is approximately 40 - she doesn't like to get specific - and desperate. She wanted to be in love: hugely, falling down a lovely big well kind of in love - the sort that's really a form of mental illness. And then Brian turned up: charming, likeable, available and with multiple bank accounts Brian. They moved in together - well, he moved into her place - and all was fine.
Then the economy takes a down turn and she gets made redundant by text. Arriving home she finds her Pimlico flat has been gutted by fire. The insurance won't pay out. Brian has disappeared - perhaps to Brazil - and what little money she had has disappeared with him. She is being investigated by the police - suspected arson, suspected fraud, money laundering...she has two options - fling herself into the Thames or go back to live with her mother in Laverloch Findo, the small Scottish village she fled (with another
dodgy boyfriend) when she was 17.
