World War Two has finished, and former Home Guard Sergeant Arthur Wilson is now the manager of the Frambourne branch of Swallows Bank. He gets an unexpected visit from ex-Private Frank Pike who asks for a loan to help former ARP Warden Bert Hodges buy old Frambourne pier. The series follows Wilson, Pike and Hodges's exploits in reviving the pier.
