Hard To Tell is a relationship comedy which sees Jonny Sweet (Edinburgh Comedy Award for Best Newcomer 2009) make his debut in radio comedy writing.
The series revolves around Tom Sheffield, his immediate family, plus Tom's longed-for-and-lusted-after new girlfriend, Ellen, her best friend Hermione and Ellen's zealously protective father.
It tells its central love story through a couple's individual conversations with their family and friends. In the process, we are introduced to all manner of relationships from a father and his cherished tour van to two women rivalling for the position of Best Friend, from a brother and sister comparing notes on Brazilians to a vicar and his new parish, and from a lodger's historic fling with a local waitress to a mum's lack of control over her desire to monitor her son's life.
Recorded on location, Hard To Tell's naturalistic, contemporary and conversational style brings new meaning to pub toilets, themed parties, early morning phone calls, restaurants, funerals, French dressers and monkey puzzle trees.
