How did you celebrate Towel Day?

In Canada, they appointed a Towel Day Ambassador. Imagine, not only did the guy with the Don't Panic tattoo not win, the winner was from Tennessee. There was a Towel March against the Vogon violence in Sao Paolo (who wouldn't march against that on any day), a combat de serviette in Paris, towel-wearing flash mobs in both Krakow and Austria, a meeting at the Restaurant at the End of the Universe in, where else, Bali and, a Vogon Poetry Slam in London.

42 - need I say more?

We have all known for some time that the answer to the ultimate question of "...what's the meaning of life, the universe and everything" is 42. Ever since Douglas Adams wrote The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy in 1979, researchers have frantically tried to determine the meaning of the meaning of life. Legend has it that Adams floated several possibilities, but told only Stephen Fry, who has vowed to take the secret to his grave.

The meaning of life? 42 things about 42

Douglas Adams said it was the answer to the meaning of life, the universe, and everything. He meant it as a joke, but a new book shows how the number 42 has played a significant role in history.

Douglas Adams and the cult of 42

If you know The Hitchhiker's Guide to The Galaxy, then you also know the answer to Life, the Universe and Everything. But how did Douglas Adams come up with that number?

Peter Gill, The Guardian, 3rd February 2011

Adapting Douglas Adams

"A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." This Douglas Adams quote could easily be applied to the 2005 screen version of his masterpiece The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Everything at the time said that this film - which was released four years after Adams' death - had to be a winner. Great dialogue, great visuals, great characters: surely he'd designed the perfect vehicle for an adaptation.

42 Day is Here!

There was a power in the world. A wild and untamed power which held all the answers and yet none of them at all. One number, it was said could save us and redeem us. One number would pull back the curtains to reveal the light of truth, beauty and wisdom. Identifying the number was not a problem. Nor did anyone doubt its power. The difficulty lay in the application of the number.
