Mark and Elliot Steel's sitcom Unite returning to Radio 4
Mark and Elliot Steel's sitcom Unite is returning for an extended second series, British Comedy Guide can exclusively reveal.
The father and son comedians are recording six more episodes of the class clash Radio 4 comedy, with Claire Skinner and Ivo Graham once again co-starring.
Director-producer Barry Castagnola, who writes the show with the Steels, told BCG that "we're going to start writing it in the next few weeks ... I think it'll probably go out next summer."
In Unite, Mark Steel plays Tony, a working-class, left-wing South London journalist, with Elliot as his disenfranchised Croydon "rude boy" son, Ashley. Tony has fallen in love with Imogen (Outnumbered star Skinner), an upper middle-class property developer, whose Eton and Oxbridge-educated son, Gideon, is played by Graham.
Five episodes of the sitcom aired last year, including a rerun of the 2020 pilot, and culminated in Tony and Imogen's wedding.
Guest stars have included Kevin Eldon, Dave Johns, Marcus Brigstocke, Jamali Maddix, Susannah Fielding, Simon Greenall and Naz Osmanoglu, with every episode of the first series still available on BBC Sounds.
Meanwhile, the twelfth series of Mark Steel's In Town is currently airing on Radio 4, with Monday's episode of the location-specific stand-up show taking place in Salisbury. Other locales featured in the latest run include Nottingham, Tring, The Isles of Scilly, Newport and Paris.
Free tickets for the Paris episode, which is being recorded in English and French on the La Nouvelle Seine boat on Monday, the first recorded outside the UK, are available via bbc.co.uk
The comedian is also touring just now with his stand-up show An Evening and A Little Bit of a Morning With Mark Steel.
