This collection contains all 26 episodes from the third radio series that was first broadcast in 1976, from March to September.
Whilst the Walmington-On-Sea Home Guard are most famous for their exploits on television, they did also carry out their duty on the wireless. Stars Arthur Lowe, John Le Mesurier, Clive Dunn, John Laurie, Arnold Ridley and more.
Tuesday 16th March 1976
A journalist comes to make a report on the Home Guard. This is soon overshadowed when a landmine cuts off Walmington-on-Sea's gas, water and railway lines. Captain Mainwaring decides the best thing to do is to put the town under martial law - he puts himself in charge naturally.
Tuesday 23rd March 1976
A member of the Soviet Union is visiting Walmington, and it is up to Mainwaring to make a speech. However, it looks like Wilson may replace him after the Sergeant inherits the title of 'The Honourable Arthur Wilson'.
Tuesday 30th March 1976
Jones is worried that Mrs Fox is falling in love with the town clerk, Mr Upton. So he asks Captain Mainwaring if he can help, only to find that the plan backfires when Mrs Fox thinks Mainwaring is in love with her.
Tuesday 6th April 1976
It is proposed that older members of the Home Guard should join the ARP while younger members of the ARP join the Home Guard. It looks like most of Mainwaring's men could be in the firing line.
Tuesday 13th April 1976
Mainwaring is shocked to find that, in his absence, most of the platoon have not turned up for parade and are instead playing darts with the ARP Wardens. Things get worse when Mainwaring is called to help with the arrest of a member of the IRA.
Tuesday 20th April 1976
The platoon are called upon to help work at a camp that is testing a new weapon - a huge wheel. While at first their work is not so glamorous, they soon find themselves trying to stop the weapon when it goes haywire.

After the platoon are told to keep an eye open for parachutes, Walker admits that he had discovered one some time ago. Walker has to try and find the remains of the parachute to see if it was British or German, which is not easy considering that he turned it into several pairs of ladies underwear.
Tuesday 4th May 1976
It is the day the men have been waiting for. When they are asked to watch the crew of a U-Boat, they get the chance to meet some Germans face-to-face. But the German Captain has plans to escape, and some names on his list.

The van runs out of petrol in the middle of a huge storm, so the platoon have to take shelter in a large, dark and gloomy house.
Tuesday 18th May 1976
The Americans have joined the war (finally) and some of them are coming to Walmington. It is decided to celebrate their arrival with a darts match in one of the local pubs. The plan does not go well.
Tuesday 25th May 1976
The platoon are given some extra fire power when they get a large naval gun. Now it is just a matter of learning how to fire it, and removing anything that can be used as cover by the Germans.
Tuesday 1st June 1976
The platoon are taking part in a large parade, alongside the ARP. Mainwaring decides it would be a good idea of get a platoon mascot to march with them, and so they decide to catch a goat. This is easier said than done after Pike gets trapped in a bog.
Tuesday 8th June 1976
A bomb hits Walmington's pumping station, which is being patrolled by Walker and Godfrey. The efforts to free them from the wreckage are somewhat wasted after Mainwaring, Wilson, Pike, Frazer and Hodges are trapped with them... and the room they are in starts flooding.
Tuesday 15th June 1976
The platoon go on an course with a van full of onions which Walker has sold to Hodges. While the men start to fall behind in their training, Hodges makes an attempt to get his onions.
Tuesday 22nd June 1976
The platoon go to the railway station in order to honour the King who is travelling through. When another train blocks the line, Mainwaring decides to move the train himself, but then there is the small matter of stopping it.
Tuesday 29th June 1976
When the platoon go on an exercise, Jones and Godfrey make a mistake with the map reference and send the rest of the men to the wrong spot. The spot that Mainwaring goes to just happens to be the target for the 25-pounders.
Tuesday 6th July 1976
Jones is becoming insolvent and needs to pay back £50 to Mainwaring's bank. It is soon discovered that the debt has a long and confusing trail to it.
Tuesday 13th July 1976
While Captain Mainwaring is in hospital, the Vicar and the Verger decide to join the Home Guard. Mainwaring is not pleased about it, but there is nothing he can do, so he sends them out to patrol with Jones' men.
Tuesday 20th July 1976
The platoon is ordered to plant signposts in order to direct a large convoy, but things are made difficult when the road is blocked by a van carrying a large circus elephant.
Tuesday 27th July 1976
Hodges challenges the Home Guard to a game of cricket, but what Mainwaring does not know is that Hodges is getting a professional to play for the ARP. Although Hodges might not need the ringer, if Mainwaring's poor skills are anything to go by.
Tuesday 3rd August 1976
The platoon are called upon when a German pilot who dived out of his plane gets caught up in the town hall clock. Their plans to rescue him seem pointless however, when they destroy the ladders they used to get up to the clock.
Tuesday 10th August 1976
After a drunken night, Jones and his men accidentally shoot a turkey. After failing to return the bird to its rightful owner, they decide the best thing to do is to offer the older residents of Walmington a turkey dinner.
Tuesday 17th August 1976
There is good news for the platoon: they are to welcome a French general, and Mainwaring is to get a staff car. It is decided to have the car camouflage-painted - they just have to pick the right car up.
Tuesday 24th August 1976
The Home Guard get a new private in their ranks, who just so happens to know Jones. However, their relationship is not a happy one, as the new arrival claims that Jones left him in the desert to die. However, Jones sets out to tell the truth.

There is some sad news when it is revealed that Godfrey's cottage is to be knocked down in order to make way for a new aerodrome. However, Frazer has a plan that may save the day.
