Monday 28th January 1974
During World War Two, there is a call for ordinary civilians to form a new section of the army: the Local Defence Volunteers. One man plans to lead them - but is the local bank manager right for the job?
Monday 4th February 1974
The LDV are short of weapons, so Captain Mainwaring marches on the Peabody Museum of Historic Army Weapons, closed for the duration. There is an obstacle however in the form of the curator, who just happens to be Jones's father.

The morale of the platoon is hitting rock bottom due to the continuing lack of proper weapons. Some form of salvation comes in the form of a deal, but will Mainwaring be willing to hand over command to desert veteran Colonel Square?
Monday 18th February 1974
A free Polish officer tells Mainwaring that an award of £10 will be given to the platoon for every German they have found "alive and in good condition". Jones, Walker and Pike find a German, but not before they accidentally shoot a swan.
Monday 25th February 1974
Mainwaring plans to use Godfrey's cottage as a vital post in case the German should ever invade. His plan is put into action when the church bells ring.
Monday 4th March 1974
Walker suggests to Jones that he should give the platoon his butchers van so that he can get free petrol for it. The plan backfires however, when Mainwaring converts the van to run on gas.
Monday 11th March 1974
Mrs Pike plans to take in an evacuee to help with the war effort, but Wilson gets the wrong end of the stick and believes that he has got her pregnant.
Monday 18th March 1974
Mainwaring is told that he can have a corporal and a lance corporal in the platoon. This results in Frazer being promoted to lance corporal, with he and Jones fighting it out to see who will get their second stripe.
Monday 25th March 1974
The platoon take part in an exercise in which they must protect the church hall from being captured by full-time soldiers lead by a Scottish captain.
Monday 1st April 1974
The Walmington-on-Sea platoon are going to a training camp. But after the platoon get lost on the way and arrive late, the men begin to lose faith in Captain Mainwaring.
Monday 8th April 1974
When Frazer is on fire watch, he believes he has spotted someone signalling to the enemy. The suspect claims he is innocent, despite his German-sounding accent and the fact his dog is called "Fritz".
Monday 15th April 1974
During an air-raid, the bank is hit by a bomb. The good news is that the bomb has not blow up. The bad news is reason why it has not: Mainwaring and Wilson are holding it.
Monday 22nd April 1974
A Major from HQ believes that Jones is too old to serve in the Home Guard. He is willing to let him stay, provided he can get around the local assault course in 15 minutes.
Monday 29th April 1974
Walker is called-up into the regular Army. The platoon are worried that they will be worse off without Walker (where will they get 'vital supplies' from?), so they try their best to keep him in the Home Guard.
Monday 6th May 1974
Mainwaring tries to improve communications amongst the platoon by giving lessons in using public telephone boxes. Their lessons are needed when a German plane crash lands into the local reservoir.
Monday 13th May 1974
The platoon get into trouble when they fire at a German plane. Mainwaring therefore organises a court of inquiry into the whole situation.
Monday 20th May 1974
Mainwaring is shocked to learn that he is not a captain but a lieutenant. Things get even worse when he learns later on that he has no rank at all, and ends up as a private.
Monday 27th May 1974
The platoon go on guard duty at the end of Walmington's pier. Things are bad enough after Pike forgets to tie up the boat and loses their food, but things get worse after Jones spots a mine under the pier.
Monday 3rd June 1974
Frazer loses the butterfly spring from his Lewis gun, and believes that it ended up in a coffin he made. When he tries to get the coffin, it turns out that it has already been taken away.
Monday 10th June 1974
Mainwaring gets his hand on a boat and plans to set up river patrols. A practice runs ends disastrously after they end up at sea, and suspect they have crossed the channel to France.
Wednesday 25th December 1974
Captain Square insults Captain Mainwaring after it is revealed that Mainwaring got no medals after the 1914-18 war. Mainwaring believes that medals will not matter if the Germans invade. This results in a competition between their platoons. Sadly, the Walmington-on-Sea platoon's shooting is not up to scratch. Perhaps Walker can come up with a solution.
