Clare has a new student social worker with an army background, which is good as Clare doesn't have time to toughen up trainees.

Further details

Titania (nicknamed 'Titty'), a new student social worker at the family centre is with Clare during one of her client meetings. After the clients leave, it isn't long before Clare hears countless stories about Titty's background as a former redcap with the military police. Clare gets increasingly frustrated by her stories and finds Titty to be a bighead.

Also in the office, Peggy, another social worker is leaving her job at the Sparrowhawk family centre for promotion elsewhere. Everyone else is overjoyed because they all detest Peggy. Peggy has organised a leaving party which Ray has volunteered to DJ. Helen has bought a tacky singing and dancing toy chicken with a faulty setting meaning it will off at will. Irene intends to buy all the flowers in the area so no one can buy a bouquet and Megan tries a new approach of meeting men... not telling them that she is a social worker.

Brian announces to Simon that he has been made chairman of the men's group and invites Simon to join them. Even though Brian is running the group, Simon can't think of anything worse to go to. During the men's group, the conversation moves from brute strength and the crisis of masculinity to football and everyone's favourite CBeebies presenter. During the meeting a group of women are heard laughing a few doors away, and the men instantly assume that the women are laughing at them. Eventually one of the men plucks up the courage to go next door... but he doesn't return. The rest of the group (except Brian) go next door and later decide to go down the pub. Brian is left to close the men's group permanently.

Long into Peggy's party, Clare is approached by Peggy. Peggy wants Clare's honest opinion about what she thinks of her before she leaves, expecting Clare to say something sweet and complimentary. Peggy apparently takes "I can't wait to see the back of you you poisonous bag of spite" the wrong way. Clare tries to make it sound like a joke when she hears Peggy has locked herself in a toilet cubicle crying. Megan starts talking to a man and tells him she is acrobat. The next day Peggy has left for her new job at another family centre, the Sparrowhawk staff are all hungover, and Megan is left saddened as she ruined her chances with man she met at the party by trying a cartwheel, but failing miserably.
