Last week's cryptic question

An announcer among the flowers hails a magazine founder, a clothes-maker by a stream and a third of an album by David Gray. Why should they meet up at the National Theatre?

Gary Richmond, Alex & Maria Hughes, Ian Harrison and Kate Emmett all proved they'd be listening in to classic radio comedy, by writing in with the correct answer this week.

See the answer

They should meet up at the National because they represent the classic line-up of I'm Sorry I Haven't A Clue.

The announcer is a town crier, linking to Barry Cryer.

The flowers refer to Graeme Garden.

The magazine founder is Willie Rushton who co-founded Private Eye.

The clothes-maker by a stream is a clue to Tim Brooke-Taylor.

The David Gray album is Sell, Sell, Sell, a third of which is a clue to Colin Sell.

The National Theatre is fitting therefore because one of the theatres in it is the Lyttleton Theatre, named after Oliver Lyttelton, 1st Viscount Chandos, who was a relative of the show's host Humphrey Lyttleton. The theatre was a recording location for the show back in 2000.
