TV production company Expectation has selected three scripts from BCG Pro's recent 10-Page Call Out opportunity.

Launched as a partnership between the leading independent producer and British Comedy Guide's platform for comedy creators, the competition sought out the strongest and funniest new narrative comedy scripts. The judging process was run completely blind, ensuring a truly fair opportunity for all.

After deliberation, the company picked Night Bus by Ana Basu, Farmed Out by Jessica Brooks and Winging It by Wisdom Charis for further development discussion.

Expectation

Formed only in 2017, Expectation has already become one of the 10 most-influential independent producers in the country, with credits ranging from Alma's Not Normal to Intelligence, and In My Skin to The Change.

Their scripted team say: "We've loved teaming up with British Comedy Guide on this opportunity, and were heartened to see how many people had submitted entries. There are so many budding comedy writers out there which is always incredibly encouraging, and we're delighted to be meeting three of them to offer feedback and further advice as they continue on their writing journey."

Ana Basu's Night Bus focuses on a group of night workers and travellers who take the same bus, where their friendships help them deal with life's frequent challenges, and even more frequent encounters with the strange passengers on board.

She says: "I'd like to apologise to my neighbours for the squealing noise I made when I found out I was one of the top 3 scripts picked. This is such lovely news, and thank you so much to BCG Pro and Expectation for supporting comedy writers with opportunities like this."

Jessica Brooks is the writer behind Farmed Out, a sitcom about a socially incompetent character who leads a dysfunctional team of volunteers on a Leeds urban farm.

She comments: "Absolutely over the moon to have made it to the final three scripts in this competition and super excited to see what happens next!"

Winging It, by Wisdom Charis, is a new comedy about being an orphan. It follows Steady as she navigates grief, adult life and her dad's white van man company - something hard to do when she's not even one of those three things.

She says: "I'm over the moon to be one of Expectation's chosen scripts! Oftentimes writing can feel like such an insular process and so to have people respond positively to your work is really affirming! I'm so grateful to BCG Pro and Expectation for ensuring opportunities like this still exist in what can feel like a particularly trying time for the arts."

All three writers have meetings scheduled with Expectation in which they will now be offered further guidance about their projects.
