Nikola McMurtrie and Serena Terry win Chorts 2023 video competition
- Industry Judges Award: A Day in the Life of Someone Being Haunted by Nikola McMurtrie
- Audience Award: Explaining Menopause to 6 Year Olds by Serena Terry
Nikola McMurtrie has won the Industry Judges Award in Chorts 2023, the Comedy Crowd's competition for videos showcasing comedy characters and concepts in two minutes or less.
The Scottish actor and writer triumphed with her short titled A Day in the Life of Someone Being Haunted.
Christian Jegard's 43 second sketch Dr Sex was named a runner-up.
Explaining Menopause to 6 Year Olds, written by and starring Serena Terry, was the other runner-up. Terry also collected the Audience Award for gaining the most views, likes and engagements.
The results were announced at a screening this afternoon (3rd December) at the Phoenix Arts Club in London. McMurtrie and Terry each won £250, with all finalists being enrolled in the Comedy Crowd Top Talent group.
The judging panel consisted of Shane Allen (Boffola Pictures), Hannah Rose (Tiger Aspect), Mark Boosey (British Comedy Guide), Lynne Parker (Funny Women) and brand consultant Chris Chalmers.
The Comedy Crowd say: "Congratulations to this year's brilliant Chorts winners, Nikola McMurtrie and Serena Terry. The standard was so incredibly high, and there were many very funny entries that didn't make the final Chortlist from nearly 500 submissions. So to win it is an amazing achievement. The competition is a showcase of exciting new comedy creators and characters. Nikola and Serena's Chorts absolutely embodied that with very different styles, but both incredibly well executed. Well done to them both and to the other top creators in the Chortlist for making 2023 a Chorts year to remember!"
