Applications are now open for Sky Comedy Rep, the development scheme in which eight writers are selected to develop 15-minute stage plays.
This is the second year of the scheme organised by Sky Studios and Birmingham Repertory Theatre, and follows on from the "huge success" of Sky Comedy Rep 2021.
The eight selected writers will attend a series of workshops, receive tailored writing support, and trial their work at a scratch performance.
The scheme will culminate in showcase performances of the plays at The Rep venue in Birmingham next year.
Successful writers will each be paid £3,000 to develop their play.
All the plays, which will be one-act, will focus around a simple premise: a proposal in a park.
The successful writers will also receive mentoring from "huge names in British comedy". Mentors last year included Meera Syal, Guz Khan, top writer Simon Blackwell and Brassic creator Danny Brocklehurst, with Dame Julie Walters as Patron.
The 2021 writers were Jodie Irvine, Jingan Young, Ashfaq Gorsi, Ryan Walker-Edwards, Rob Carter, Drew Vida Marke, Ed Amsden & Tom Coles, Mari Izzard & Lowri Izzard and Kat Rose-Martin.
To enter the 2022 contest, writers should complete the application form, and submit a page on their idea, and two pages of sample scripts.
The deadline to enter is Friday 12th August, with the scheme then set to run from October 2022 to May 2023.
The application form can be downloaded from birmingham-rep.co.uk
