Comedy chain The 99 Club have reinstated their bursary scheme, which is focused on female and non-binary comedians who are taking their first full length solo comedy show to the Edinburgh Festival.

The scheme, which previously ran in 2017, 2018 and 2019 before being halted by the pandemic, will see cash prizes awarded to comics. Past bursary recipients include Sophie Duker, Sarah Keyworth, Helen Bauer, Catherine Bohart, Lauren Pattison and Janine Harouni.

The club explains: "Five shortlisted comedians will appear in a showcase at one of our West End venues in May, and will be judged by top industry professionals. Two comics will receive an award of £500, with the other 3 finalists receiving a £100 award."

The club says: "Previous bursary recipients have gone on from promising new acts to appearing on the likes of Live At The Apollo, Mock The Week, Taskmaster and Comedy Central's Roast Battle.

"We value our ability to offer a platform for diverse voices, and know that there are many more talented female & non-binary comics out there. We look forward to working with emerging talents, and are honoured to provide a foundation for their artistic development."

Applications are open until 14th April. Full details can be found on 99clubcomedy.com/bursary
