I'll always remember the first time I ever got commissioned to review something, and the warning that came with it. That warning wasn't from a tense PR trying to influence the outcome - although that often happens - but from an editor wanting to make absolutely sure I knew what I was getting into, with this whole reviewing business.
They almost hesitated before handing the job over, in fact, like an old British war-movie...
