Former UKTV commissioning editor Joe McVey has set up a production company in Bristol called Super Best Quality Video Productions.

His new company will specialise in scripted and non-scripted comedy shows.

McVey has been working in production, development and commissioning for over 20 years now, having previously held roles at companies including Tiger Aspect, Roughcut, Objective, Comedy Central and UKTV.

As an executive producer, his CV includes shows such as Hypothetical, Judge Romesh, Dave Gorman: Modern Life Is Goodish and Drunk History.

He says: "After three great years at UKTV my season ticket ran out so it felt like a good idea to go back to the production sector. Bristol is such an amazing creative hub so it felt odd that comedy was hugely under-served.

"I'm really looking forward working with all the great talent I've had the joy to work with over the years as long as I can persuade them to come down here occasionally. And as I say, I couldn't afford the train fare anymore."

He jokingly added that he will not rest "until we've got Attenborough a panel show".

Official Chart Show producers Strawberry Blond, launched three years ago by former Disney exec Steve Wynne, are backing McVey's company. Wynne says new business was "the super best Christmas present anyone could wish for", jokingly adding: "We're truly excited about working with hilarious talent. And Joe."

Details on how to pitch to Super Best Quality Video Productions will be available soon.
