What is your 'voice'? It's something that, as a new writer, you may be considering.

Of course, different projects will have different tones, and there is something schizophrenic about good writing: for the duration of the writing process, different characters with very different personalities will joust and spar in your head. Indeed, you will know when a character, or character combination, is working well when they seem to operate almost independently: their very essence informing what they should say, how they should react, and what storylines would open fruitful territory for them.
