It may seem a bit pot/kettle now, but there was an era when we looked down on Americans - and American TV in particular - for dumbing down; appealing to the lowest common denominator. For example, where our exploiting-your-funny-footage show boasted the at least vaguely catchy title You've Been Framed, ABC went with the absolutely route-one America's Funniest Home Videos. How many focus groups did that go through?
