On the train back from one of the nation's many, many fringe festivals recently I met a theatre director who, fairly matter-of-factly, explained how the show she'd helped stage had struggled for bums on seats; tricky out-of-the-way venue, busy time slot, and all that.
After she disembarked, I Iooked up that one-man show, a niche affair featuring a newcomer; turns out it was 15 quid. Which is, what, five, maybe £10 more than most...
