Plotting: a pair of tips

We were delighted to meet with members in Manchester last night. One of the topics that came up repeatedly was issues with plotting.
Issues included starting scripts and struggling to finish; failing to work up proper storylines before beginning writing; and not having sufficient story to sustain a full half-hour script.
It's important to remember that sitcoms crunch through a lot of story - more story than you might think.
There is an old saying in television: "You always wants something to cut". This means that you need enough story to hold up an episode that once it's been shot...
