More on The House
We are delighted by the response we've had so far to our new original sitcom project, The House.
We know how incredibly difficult it is for newer writers to secure professional-level credits - even more so on a sitcom.
Up until fairly recently the BBC made a number of sitcoms on which newer writers could find work, and be trained up. Those opportunities have sadly closed.
The truth is, when you're developing as a writer, that you have to practically "do" as well as theoretically learn.
You need to be involved in scripts that will actually be made. You need a chance to improve; to succeed - and fail. Ideally, in a supportive atmosphere.
This is where The House comes in.
Produced to a professional broadcast standard, it will offer a training ground for our members - the sitcom equivalent of Breaking The News, The Skewer and DMs Are Open.
We hope members who successfully contribute will be proud to have the credit on their CVs alongside these shows.
And we want to take things further than that.
We hope - should we proceed with a series - Pro members will appear in the episodes, as well as write them.
But for now, the focus is on the pilot. For a team written show, a pilot offers an opportunity to set a tone and direction. It will provide the foundations on which The House is built.
Check back soon for more news on our main characters - Lucy, Billy and Zarah - and the next stages of the project.
And please, be sure to let us know if you want to be involved!
