Alan Simpson and Ray Galton's Steptoe And Son is effectively a two-hander, as is the television version of Hancock's Half Hour - the action mostly focusing on Hancock and Sid.
Meanwhile, Jeremy Lloyd and David Croft's 'Allo 'Allo! has an extraordinary 17 main characters.
John Sullivan's Only Fools And Horses has 3 main characters, though the cast expands over time. Graham Linehan and Arthur Mathews' Father Ted has four.
