Laughter in The House

Micheál Jacob's long career as an executive producer and script editor encompasses a plethora of television and radio comedies, including Birds Of A Feather, Two Pints Of Lager And A Packet Of Crisps, Goodnight Sweetheart, My Family, Eyes Down, Thieves Like Us, The Smoking Room, Not For Turning and Dead Canny. He is co-creator and producer of The House.
There are probably bad jokes about draught-proofing and draft-proofing, but we'll let those pass because there is now a second draft of The House.
While a first draft is generally a rough indication of what a show might become, a second draft should bring everything into sharper focus - the characters, the story and the style.
I'm a firm believer in first drafts as opposed to fiddling about with scene breakdowns. I have never met a writer whose heart beats faster at the thought of a first draft storyline, never mind a fourth, and since I'm producing the show I encouraged Tim to go straight to script.
For the new draft, he blocked off a writing week, and the results are exciting. The characters feel more rooted in the world, and the comedy is more rooted in the characters. The logic...
