It's natural, when you're working on a sitcom idea, to want it to be original.
Of course, originality is important. Your material needs to feel fresh.
But there are lots of ways to make your show seem fresh and new. One of the questions writers often ask themselves when working on a new idea is,
"Has it been done before?"
It's a perfectly reasonable question to ask. To come up with a brand spanking new idea seems like a golden ticket to success.
