A novel approach

They say everybody has a novel in them - though not, we presume, literally. But should you write one?

The first thing to remember is that writing a novel is difficult.

The average novel is approximately 80, 000 words long. This is the standard length for a published novel, and it's very likely that, if you're going to head down the traditional publishing route, this is the number of words your work will need to be.

Of course, some genres, such as young adult fiction, utilise a notably shorter standard length.
