For her second hour-long Edinburgh show, Antihero, Vix Leyton wanted to achieve a sultry "film noir" style for the show artwork, whilst also drawing on the "pulp art" styling of classic detective and crime films and novels from the 1940s and 1950s. Working with acclaimed performer and photographer Jamie Mykaela, they undertook a photoshoot in Fontaines Bar in East London to achieve the desired "speakeasy" feel.
From this photoshoot, Mart McDonald undertook the design work, aiming to achieve an oil painting effect reminiscent of the pulp art era, with a traditional swooping banner for the artist name and show title - the aim was to make the poster be visually unique and punchy, to draw the eye and be stylistically representative of the era, whilst still providing the necessary details of the show, venue and ticket link (via QR code) in as clean a manner as possible.
