Will Hay was a comedian, actor and early superstar of British film, best known for his schoolmaster character and a series of hit films throughout the 1930s and 40s. Also successful on radio and stage, he was a major influence to many later better-remembered television stars, and off-stage both a devoted amateur astronomer and aviator.
