Terry Gilliam was turned down for Harry Potter, and hated it

The Harry Potter movies are some of the most beloved films ever to hit the big screen. However, not everyone is a fan of the cinematic Wizarding World, and filmmaker Terry Gilliam, who was originally up to direct the first movie in the franchise, hasn't been shy about dishing out criticism.

Her comments come as more than half of Britons say they have stopped themselves from expressing political and social views for fear of being judged.

Terry Gilliam finds a welcome in Bath

Gilliam's version of the 1987 show, which reimagines a bunch of Brothers Grimm fairy tales, was to have opened at the Old Vic next April. But staff at the theatre point blank refused to work with Gilliam, a noted director and illustrator, even turning down his offer to design a poster. I can reveal that Gilliam, 80, and his backers have now found a safe haven in the shape of the Theatre Royal, Bath.

Old Vic cancels Terry Gilliam show over trans views

Terry Gilliam, the former Monty Python star, has been "cancelled" by one of Britain's leading theatres because some of its staff had concerns about his views. Gilliam, 80, had been due to co-direct the Stephen Sondheim musical Into The Woods at the Old Vic in London next year. The American composer had expressed support for Gilliam's artistic vision for the production. The theatre, however, has unexpectedly announced the cancellation of the show. Gilliam, who could not be contacted yesterday, is said to have upset members of staff at the Old Vic because of his views on various topics, including Harvey Weinstein and trans rights.

Michael Palin's Memory Palaces review

Many of these tales might be familiar to fans, but it's good to hear them told, most engagingly, from the Python's mouth. So don't expect great insights into the working of Gilliam's eccentric mind, but an array of entertaining anecdotes that unfold with a little more space that they would get on the usual chat-show circuit.
