In this dramatisation of his turbulent rise to TV fame, we get a glimpse behind the façade, with Everett's iconoclastic shoes ably filled by Oliver Lansley. Best value are the uncanny impressions of Kenny's best-loved TV characters, strutting across the screen to signpost the biopic action, while Katherine Kelly lends moving support as Everett's long-suffering wife Lee.

On a channel that's still hit and miss with its comedy output, Good News has stood out like a beacon of reliability as the warm and energetic Howard gives us his upbeat take on the week's news drawn from '60 international news channels, 140 worldwide newspapers and more than a thousand news clips'. No wonder it's on its seventh series.

Everyone is on the campaign trail in this final episode of a series that never quite lived up to its potential. Jack Whitehall's slacker teacher wants one of his miscreants to thwart a junior politician-in-the-making for the job of school president, while Fraser (Mat Horne) campaigns to get his job back after a misdemeanour in the exam hall sees him suspended - much to the undisguised, flared-nostrilled glee of Michelle Gomez's evil Miss Pickwell.

The first series of this US TV industry satire starring Tamsin Greig, Matt LeBlanc and Stephen Mangan eventually found a groove after an awkward start, so it's good to see it back. By the end of this smartly scripted opener, the ratings are in for Sean and Beverly's Pucks!, the sitcom-within-a-sitcom that has LeBlanc gloriously miscast as an exaggerated version of himself. Good or bad, they won't help the rift caused by LeBlanc bedding Beverly last season.
