An hour of stand-up recorded at the Festival Theatre in Edinburgh, and showcasing some of the most popular comedians from the annual August comedy festival. Among them are Sean Lock (drily witty QI regular), Jack Whitehall (startlingly young, with endearingly shambolic delivery), Emo Philips (master of the one-liner) and Adam Hills (relentlessly cheerful Australian). Presented by Shappi Khorsandi.
Simon Horsford, The Telegraph, 13th January 2011The immensely likeable Shappi Khorsandi gets personal in this second series of four themed shows. Today's topic is divorce: Khorsandi, a recent divorcee and now a single mother, discusses the horror of resuming dating and the process of explaining the situation to her small son. It's the perfect subject matter for her style: fresh and incisive but warmly inclusive and, often, sharply self-deprecating.
Jack Seale, Radio Times, 22nd December 2010Kevin Bridges, rising star of the comedy circuit, heads up Live at the Apollo tonight. The Glaswegian presents his dry, sardonic take on Scottish life, celebrity and the media with witty aplomb. Impressive, considering he's still in his early twenties. Joining him is Jack Whitehall and Shappi Khorsandi.
Lucy Jones, The Telegraph, 17th December 2010Funny Scot Kevin Bridges hosts this week's stand-up show. He's a capable compere with a honed routine on dads, specifically the point at which children realise theirs is a bit of a twit. (Bridges uses a different word, but we'll assume that you're reading this before the watershed.) Tonight's guests are Iranian-born comic Shappi Khorsandi, who uses her recent marriage breakdown to fuel a short, sharp routine on divorce, but the big laughs come from comedian number two, self-confessed posh boy Jack Whitehall. There's a whiff of Russell Brand about the south-west Londoner. He spits out a frantic, furious anecdote about going to school with Robert Pattinson (lead vampire in the Twilight films) and it's hilarious.
Ruth Margolis, Radio Times, 17th December 2010The stand-up show has reached its sixth series and kicks off with some trusty names. Mock the Week regular Sean Lock is the host and dishes out gags about the perils of people wanting to try on your glasses and - that old topic that just about anyone can relate to - having children. He introduces Liverpudlian John Bishop, whose own comedy series was shown on BBC One in the summer. Over the following five episodes we can expect to see Dara O Briain, Lenny Henry, Jon Richardson and Shappi Khorsandi among those taking the stage.
Catherine Gee, The Telegraph, 24th November 2010A repeat of C4's live comedy extravaganza from London's 02 Arena earlier this year in which 23 of our funniest people (and Michael McIntyre) competed to win our laughs in aid of Great Ormond Street Children's Charity. Take your pick from Alan Carr, Noel Fielding, Catherine Tate, Bill Bailey, Mitchell & Webb, Jack Dee, Jack Whitehall, Kevin Eldon, Lee Evans, Rob Brydon, Sean Lock, Jo Brand, Jason Manford, Fonejacker, Andy Parsons and Shappi Khorsandi. Phew.
The Guardian, 6th November 2010Khorsandi receives doctorate from Winchester University
Comedian Shappi Khorsandi will receive an honorary doctorate from the University of Winchester at a graduation ceremony in the cathedral on October 22.
Hampshire Chronicle, 6th October 2010The BBC's successful Grumpy Old franchise - in which various aged or ageing TV pundits are encouraged to grouse on about a given topic - rolls on with this new programme focusing on the supposedly cheerful experience of mandatory education. Expect wry classroom anecdotage from the likes of Al Murray, Shappi Khorsandi, Ronni Ancona and Mark Radcliffe.
