Sean Hughes review

Perrier Comedy Award winner Sean Hughes approached the end of his Mumbo Jumbo tour as he visited The Old Fire Station Venue in Carlisle. His political satire combined with middle aged hindsight was fused with a humorous ad-lib candour delivered in what seemed to be an off the cuff comedic show.

Review - Sean Hughes Mumbo Jumbo

Though it feels loose, his use of sound cues in the show suggests there's more forward planning than it would first appear, and the themes of death and decay recur. But Mumbo Jumbo lacks the tight focus - and, therefore, the impact - of his previous offerings.

Review: Sean Hughes, Bristol Old Vic

Sean Hughes is good company for his latest show Mumbo Jumbo - named after the nonsense in your head that contradicts the good sense and tells you to have another pint or touch a lamppost for good luck.

Comedy review: Sean Hughes, Glasgow

This first performance of Sean Hughes's latest show finds him musing on addiction. Establishing the idea of a dialogue between his common sense and the inner voice leading him astray, the Irishman reveals how he knew that he'd become a comedian at the age of ten - an incident leading to him visiting the dentist found him responding to the man's patronising care with reflexive viciousness, if not wit.

Comedy review: Sean Hughes - Penguins (Oran Mor)

Less of a standup show, more a study of the universality of love, life and loss (with laughs) - 'Penguins' is Sean Hughes at the top of his game.
