One-time comedian Russell Brand has travelled a lng way since stints on UK television and in Hollywood. He now spends his time slamming the "global elites" in a shock-jock show from his Oxfordshire mansion.
Brand broadcasts on the platform Rumble, which he joined last year after being censored for allegedly spreading Covid misinformation on YouTube. Rumble is backed by conservative billionaire investor Peter Thiel, and is also home to Donald Trump Jr and conspiracist Alex Jones.
In a recent show, Brand tackled the thorny topic of Silicon Valley Bank, whose recent collapse helped cause a global woble of cinfidence in the banking system. Ryan Grim, a journalist with US news site the Intercept, explained to Brand in an interview that the SVB bank run was largely caused by "tech bros" who had texted each other about taking deposits out, which led to investors trying to remove $40bn in the company's final 24 hours.
Who was the investor most blamed for the run? Why, one Peter Thiel, whose firm Founders Fund had advised its clients to exist SVB - and they listened! Given Brand's hatred of the billionaire class, shouldn't he turn his laser beam on Thiel, the man who funds his TV rants?
