Ray Galton OBE was an English writer, best known for his work with Alan Simpson and often cited with creating the modern British sitcom, with Hancock's Half Hour and Steptoe And Son their most notable works together. Meeting Simpson aged 18 at a tuberculosis sanatorium in Surrey, the Londoner also enjoyed an extensive career with other writers, including Johnny Speight and John Antrobus.
