David Nobbs and Peter Tinniswood's first sitcom partly recovered

The first ever sitcom from David Nobbs (The Fall And Rise Of Reginald Perrin) and Peter Tinniswood (I Didn't Know You Cared), as well as a long-forgotten comedy from Johnny Speight, are amongst missing episodes to have been recovered in 2023, ahead of a screening this weekend.

MCC: The Fully Harmonious And Totally Unauthorised History (Radio 4, Friday and Tuesday), written and presented by Peter Tinniswood, and using the "highly classified MCC sound archives." I heard it on the Tuesday, after the end of the Edgbaston Test and it couldn't have been better timed. Both a spoof of cricketing lore and commentary, not least from those Test Match Special worthies on "the talking wireless", and a cricketers' spoof of every sort of documentary or outside broadcast, it made me laugh aloud.

Val Arnold-Forster, The Guardian, 1st August 1987

After two episodes it looks as though Dad's Army is a real winner. It's situation comedy of the very best sort, because it's drawn from a rich fund of experience and not from the artificial hatchery of a script conference.
