Tony! The Tony Blair Rock Opera - Darlington Hippodrome review

Tony! The Tony Blair Rock Opera is a bit of a conundrum. It is funny, but not hilarious, the music is good but not great and the narrative is at once long-winded and also incredibly thin. It is absolutely not a rock opera of any description, nor is it quite funny enough to be a parody or spoof. It doesn't really seem to know what it is.

Tony! (The Tony Blair Rock Opera) review

If you're expecting an accurate political history lesson you'll be disappointed - although you may find things here that you didn't know. If on the other hand, you want an amusing but forgettable couple of hours going over the life of one of the most successful yet divisive characters in recent British history, then this is the place to be.

Tony! (The Tony Blair Rock Opera) at Leicester Square Theatre, review

Tony! is funny but you're left wanting more, but very probably not more of the same.

Theatre review: Tony [The Tony Blair Rock Opera], Park Theatre

I had misgivings about how they were going to make Blair into a comic figure given that he is best remembered by many for taking the UK into the Iraq war, but Hill and Brown successfully find the balance between being as stupid as a panto and as seriously poiltical as Brecht or Dario Fo.
