Paul Currie: Laughter and Joy
"Schtoom is my tenth show at the fringe, and it's my first show where I don't speak."
Entertainment Now, 6th August 2023Joe Angella's Comedy Choices for Edfringe 2023
Here is my no-nonsense list of shows to see in the "comedy" category at Ed Fringe.
Joe Angella, Fringe Review, 3rd August 2023Review: Paul Currie: The Chorus of Ghosts Living In My Skull Keep Telling Me To Take A Shit In The Fruit Salad
Ultimately it's quite a strange hodgepodge of a show, with some aspects that I loved, and some parts I felt bored by, and the occasional serious moment which though interesting sometimes saw Currie almost force a round of applause out of the crowd, rather than it happening naturally. Due to all of the above I wouldn't recommend it to the casual comedy fan, but if you're looking for something a little unconventional, even if it is a flawed creation I'd cautiously recommend it.

British Comedy Guide, 8th March 2022When live comedy was illegal... 10 memorable gigs of 2021
Twelve months ago it seemed uncertain whether it would be possible to produce this annual list of my ten most memorable gigs. But lockdown eventually eased, and the resilience and sprightliness of the comedy world meant live gigs sprung back instantly. Even the Edinburgh Fringe took place - albeit in a slimmed-down version, more chilled and friendlier than normal, barely recognisable without its usual intensity.

Fringe comedy has been Disneyfied this year, but its spirit is still there if you know where to look.

British Comedy Guide, 28th February 2020Live review: Paul Currie - Trufficle Musk
Five minutes in to Paul Currie's latest show and he'd already taken to the stage wearing a dress before stripping down to his white underpants and rotating on a circular rotate-y thing (and yes, it is incisive writing like that which earns me the big bucks) and then sung a song using an old typewriter as a musical instrument, and by this point I was already convinced that not only was I going to enjoy his show an enormous amount but that it might be one of the best I've seen all year.
