Janey Godley has had to cancel her upcoming stand-up tour.
Her promoters say: "It is with huge sadness that we must announce the cancellation of Janey Godley's autumn 2024 tour. Janey has been living with stage 4 ovarian cancer for the past few years and the treatment from the wonderful Scottish NHS has kept the disease at bay, but sadly in the last few weeks the cancer has returned and there have been a few added complications. Her doctors have now advised her that she must stop work for the foreseeable future.
"Janey is devastated to let down her thousands of loyal fans, and the wonderful venues, she has played many times over the years. She would like to thank everyone for their love and support at this difficult time."
The comedian has explained more in a video (below), saying: "It is really difficult to admit, and especially for me, that I can't do this. My doctors have advised me not to work any more, and that's been possibly the hardest news in this whole cancer journey."
She also says in the video: "I want everybody to know how hard it is for me to be able to accept I can't work because working, to me, is life. Being a comedian is the only thing that makes me feel alive. But this chemo is absolutely kicking me to bits."
