Actor Robbie Coltrane has died at the age of 72.
Riding to prominence one of the comically-minded actors on the wave of the early 1980s' alternative comedy boom, he is now best remembered for his considerable work in the field of drama, but accumulated a long and significant CV of comedy credits.
Born Anthony Robert McMillan on 30th March 1950, he died today, 14th October 2022, at a hospital in Larbert, Scotland.
His comedy credits range from television to radio and film, including titles such as The Young Ones, A Kick Up The Eighties, Nuns On The Run, Britannia Hospital, Blackadder, Alfresco, Friday Night Live, Tutti Frutti, Alive And Kicking and Lead Balloon.
Also a key part of the Comic Strip Presents team, he appeared in, wrote and/or directed across the lifespan of the satirical series, including the very first episode on Channel 4 in 1982 and 2012's 30th anniversary special.
Born in Rutherglen just outside Glasgow, the circumstances around his death have yet to be revealed.
His agent said today: "He will probably be best remembered for decades to come as Hagrid in the Harry Potter films, a role which brought joy to children and adults alike all over the world."
