The comedian, actor and presenter takes over from Sue Barker, as the BBC controversially refreshes the long-running TV quiz show.
The Phoenix Nights star will be joined on the programme by hockey player Sam Quek and England rugby star Ugo Monye, who take over from Matt Dawson and Phil Tufnell as the show's team captains.

In an interview with The Mirror, McGuinness said: "I love the fiercely competitive nature of sports stars coupled with having a laugh. That's why A Question Of Sport has always been one of my favourite shows and having been weaned on it from an early age, this is an honour and opportunity I'm certainly not taking lightly."
A Question Of Sport has been on air for over 50 years. It launched in 1968 with Stuart Hall as host. David Vine presented the show from 1970, with David Coleman taking over in 1979. Sue Barker has hosted since 1997.
Paying tribute to the previous hosts, McGuinness says: "I grew up with both Davids hosting but it's Sue who made this show her own. She will always be A Question Of Sport icon, but I'll try my best to stamp my own mark on it."
