ZOO readers vote Jimmy Carr Funniest Man in Britain
Readers of mens' magazine ZOO have voted stand-up comedian Jimmy Carr as the 'Funniest Man in Britain'.
The 8 Out Of 10 Cats host, pictured, said "I'm genuinely thrilled, because this is probably my greatest achievement - I've not won many awards. ZOO readers are the young lads at my gigs, so it's nice to know we've got the same sense of humour."
Thousands of votes are said to have been cast in the poll, conducted for a 'Comedy Spectacular' issue of the magazine, guest-edited by Keith Lemon and published in aid of Comic Relief, with 10p from each sale going to the charity.
A somewhat unexpected entrant into the ranking was Blackpool football club boss Ian Holloway, who is known to football fans for giving "highly quotable off-the-wall interviews".
The full top 100 'Funniest Men in Britain' list will be published in this week's edition of the magazine, but here are the top 10:
- Jimmy Carr
- Frankie Boyle
- Lee Evans
- Karl Pilkington
- Michael McIntyre
- Ricky Gervais
- Ian Holloway
- John Bishop
- Sean Lock
- Russell Howard
Damien McSorley, ZOO's editor, said: "Jimmy Carr is a very worthy recipient of our Funniest Man in Britain accolade, but it's not just comedians that our readers find hilarious. Notoriously mouthy sportsmen Audley Harrison and El Hadji Diouf both made a surprise appearance in the list as well as The Apprentice boss Lord Alan Sugar and former contestant Stuart Baggs. It's clear that some people we're laughing with, while some we're most definitely laughing at!"
