Alan Carr to present a ITV show labelled "the ultimate karaoke night".

Singalong - The Show is described as "an exciting new music game show where contestants need to sing it, to win it".

The programme is being made by the same producers who make Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway. The formats have not been confirmed as being linked, but Takeaway has previously featured a segment called Singalong in which audience members have to fill in the missing words when a famous live band stops singing. Singalong is being developed by ITV Studios and is believed to be a prime time format that could air in a Saturday night slot.

The format has been revealed as the future of Ant & Dec's Saturday Night Takeaway has been cast in doubt. Co-presenter Anthony McPartlin has stepped back from all current work commitments following his arrest for drink driving.

Accordingly, the channel has confirmed that there will be no Saturday Night Takeaway episode this week, being replaced by a repeat of Through The Keyhole. A decision has yet to be made on whether the remaining episodes in the series will still go ahead, and - if so - who would present them. The SNT final had been planned as a live spectacular broadcast from Florida's Universal Orlando Resort, however press reports today suggest the future of the show is now "under review".

Singalong will be filmed at ITV's London Studios next week, on Thursday 29th March. Tickets

To encourage people to apply for tickets to see the programme being recorded, producers say: "It will feature all sorts of fun karaoke games and music challenges. Plus, you get to say you were there at the very start of this amazing new, primetime TV show, from the producers of Saturday Night Takeaway!"

This won't be Alan Carr's first music-based show. In 2014 he presented The Singer Takes It All on Channel 4, a show in which contestants performed on a moving stage controlled by audience votes.

More details about Singalong are expected to be revealed in due course.
