Stand-up comedian Rob Beckett is to become one of the faces of BBC One's prime-time Saturday night schedule.

The BBC announced today that he will host All Together Now, a six-part entertainment format involving singing.

The producers explain: "Each episode sees a range of talented performers (solos and groups) take to the stage to perform in front of The 100, an audience of great singers with big voices and even bigger opinions. If any of The 100 like what they hear, they stand up and join in. The greater the number that stand up and sing along, the higher the contestant's score.

"Featuring big name music talent as part of The 100, the series comprises of five hour-long heats. Each contestant is battling to convince as many of The 100 as possible to lend them their voices. The 100 are made up of specially cast members of the public all with singing credentials, from right across the UK. With a real mix of musical backgrounds, the singer will be confronted with 100 people all with something to say - tough crowds don't get any tougher.

"At the end of the show, two performers progress to the Grand Final for the chance to win a big cash prize. All Together Now is for anyone who believes their voice could win them big, and surprise a lot of people in the process."

Rob Beckett says: "If like me you're the sort of person who likes to belt out a tune in the shower then I'm pretty sure this is the show for you... but if you're the sort of person who likes to belt out a tune in the shower while another hundred people join in... then firstly, how big is your bathroom? And secondly this is definitely the show for you!

"In my opinion, All Together Now is going to be the best thing to happen to Saturday night since they invented Sunday morning... and I could not be happier or more excited to be a part of it."

The show will be broadcast in 2018.

James Fox from producers Remarkable Television says: "This isn't the search for the next big pop act - instead we're looking for performers from all kinds of musical backgrounds and with all levels of experience who think they can give that brilliant performance to get The 100 on their feet and singing along. We can't wait to bring this uplifting, funny and inspiring new format to Saturday nights on BBC One in 2018."

Kate Phillips from the BBC concludes: "All Together Now is the ultimate crowd pleaser with nervous contestants having to do just that, please a very big crowd! With a very opinionated 100 and the brilliant Rob as ringmaster, this will be a unique and very funny Saturday night singalong."

Rob Beckett, who is one of the team captains on 8 Out Of 10 Cats, is also working with the BBC on a sitcom. Static will be broadcast as part of the BBC's Comedy Playhouse season.
