Vic Reeves is to guest star in ITV continuing drama Coronation Street.
The comedian and actor, who will be credited under his real name of Jim Moir, will play a television presenter in the soap.
Producers say: "Jim will play television presenter Colin who comes to Weatherfield to film with Norris and Mary after they are chosen to make an appearance on his show. It's not long before Colin finds himself embroiled in the lives of other street residents."
Reeves will be filming a three-month stint from July.
He says: "I've been a lifelong fan of Corrie. In fact, I think I saw the very first one. I try not to miss any episodes. I'm really looking forward to acting in Corrie. It's a real thrill to be part of a British Institution."
Executive Producer Kieran Roberts says: "Jim is such a well-loved entertainer and a brilliant actor so we're thrilled he's joining the cast of Coronation Street. Fans will have to wait till the summer to see what Colin's arrival in Weatherfield means for the residents of Coronation Street."
The character of Colin will be seen on screens from late summer.
This will not be the first time Reeves has presented himself in a 'straight' acting role. He will appear in the forthcoming film Funny Cow, and has previously acted in programmes such as Hebburn (pictured) and Eric & Ernie.
This news follows the announcement that Vic & Bob are to return to TV to present Vic & Bob's Big Night Out (Story).
