- Rhod Gilbert is to host The Apprentice: You're Fired
- He says: "I feel I have what it takes to empathise with the candidates"
- The Apprentice returns this October, with You're Fired following the main show each week
Rhod Gilbert is to follow in the footsteps of Dara O Briain and Jack Dee as the host of The Apprentice: You're Fired, the companion show Alan Sugar's The Apprentice.
His appointment follows Jack Dee's departure from the series due to other filming commitments.
The BBC confirms: "Rhod will appear each week alongside a variety of business experts and celebrities to discuss the outgoing candidates' performance. As with previous series, You're Fired will air immediately after The Apprentice on BBC Two."
On joining the series, Gilbert commented: "As a massive fan of The Apprentice, I can't wait to start hosting You're Fired. As someone who has been fired from 24 jobs in six series of my BBC work experience show [Rhod Gilbert's Work Experience], I feel I have what it takes to empathise with the candidates who've been so cruelly rejected, and provide a shoulder for them to cry on."
BBC Two's Patrick Holland says: "I am delighted that Rhod is taking the hot seat on You're Fired. Rhod is a brilliantly individual comedian and I think the audience will love his gentle grilling of each week's fired candidate."
Commissioner Kate Phillips adds: "It's great news that Rhod will be joining as the host of You're Fired on BBC Two. A natural and accomplished presenter as well as a brilliant comic, he's perfect for the role and I'm very excited to hear his unique take on the highlights of The Apprentice each week!"
The Apprentice starts in October. Gilbert will host eleven episodes of You're Fired, plus You're Hired, a one-hour special talking to the winner of the series.
