Roy 'Chubby' Brown has been caught on camera driving dangerously.

Video footage, taken by a North Yorkshire Police camera, shows the stand-up comedian reading a newspaper whilst travelling in his car.

The video - which can be seen at the bottom of this story - focuses on the comedian as he looks at a copy of The Sun newspaper whilst travelling along the A19 near Crathorne.

The offence was committed in May, and police have now charged the comedian under his real name, Royston Vasey, for dangerous driving. He was fined £30 and given four points on his licence by Northallerton Magistrates. He was also ordered to pay costs of £40 and a victim surcharge of £20.

Vasey - who has previously called himself "The Most Outrageous Comedian In The World" due to the blue and controversial nature of many of his jokes - did not appear in court.

Speaking to Neil Green on BBC Tees, Vasey said: "I was in the wrong and I apologise. I've never been caught on the phone because I don't do that, I don't drink and drive, I try to abide by the law."

North Yorkshire Police's Dave Brown said: "This is another case where our mobile safety cameras have proved that they are not just about speed, demonstrating that we have the technology to capture all manner of offences which put road users at risk.

"Motorists must give the road their full attention as a few seconds' lapse in concentration can have catastrophic consequences, literally meaning the difference between life and death."
