Nadine Dorries slams 'abhorrent' Jimmy Carr; new laws will ban offensive comedy
Ms Dorries described Carr's comments as "abhorrent" and said "they just shouldn't be on television". It was put to her that in a tweet in 2017 she had claimed that "left-wing snowflakes are killing comedy". She said: "Well, that's not comedy. What Jimmy Carr did last night is not comedy."

Footage of culture secretary Nadine Dorries struggling to defend Boris Johnson in an interview has gone viral, with many comparing the clip to a Catherine Tate comedy sketch. Many have compared Dorries' mannerisms in the interview to those of Tate's comedy character Lauren, a school girl whose catchphrase is "Am I bovvered?"

In a 2017 tweet which was widely recirculated after her new job was announced, the newly-appointed culture secretary said: "Left wing snowflakes are killing comedy, tearing down historic statues, removing books from universities, dumbing down panto, removing Christ from Christmas and suppressing free speech. Sadly, it must be true, history does repeat itself. It will be music next."

And so is Conservative MP Nadine Dorries, who has turned down all requests to appear on the BBC panel show Have I Got News For You since her one and only appearance in 2012 because, she claims, it is "too vicious" for most female guests.
